Mitsubishi Electric unveils ACMI sponsorship deal

2009-09-22

Mitsubishi Electric Australia is proud to announce its three year sponsorship of the new exhibition gallery at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

Located at Federation Square in the heart of Melbourne, ACMI celebrates and explores the moving image in all its forms - film, television, games, and digital culture. Through a diverse and engaging annual calendar of award winning major exhibitions, film programs, live events, creative workshops, education programs, community activities and lending services, ACMI brings the best of moving image culture from across the globe to Australian audiences.

Screen Worlds: The Story of Film, Television and Digital Culture, is the stunning new 1600 square metre exhibition being opened at ACMI. This new permanent exhibition will be a free visitor experience, and provide audiences with an engaging exhibition telling the story of over 100 years of the moving image. The Mitsubishi Electric range of visual products including LCD displays, DLP™ video wall cubes and projectors will feature prominently in the new gallery, ensuring crystal clear image reproduction for all of the video and data content on display.

“As a world leader in display technology, we are thrilled to be partnering with ACMI in this groundbreaking showcase of video and images that look at the past, present and future of visual medium” said Tom Seeto, Executive Director of Mitsubishi Electric Australia. “The new gallery is a great addition to an already fantastic cultural centre, and knowing that our display products will be used to enhance the visitor experience is a source of great pride for us”.

The Screen Worlds gallery has three core themes. EMERGENCE looks at the early beginnings of cinema in the world, through to the rise of television, video games, the Internet and digital media. VOICES will focus on the role of the moving image in Australia and how it has shaped our national identity. It will celebrate the work of Australians who have brought their creative visions to the screen and includes a focus on Indigenous representation and practise. SENSATION is a truly unique environment of experiential displays. These interactive presentations transform the moving image into experiences that heighten its power of magic and illusion.

ACMI is open daily from 10am - 6pm (except Christmas Day), with ACMI Cinemas open later for scheduled film screenings along with ACMI Lounge. Public car parking is available at Federation Square and in Flinders Lane, and ACMI is nearby to bus, train and tram lines.
